Question what design and commercial communication really is, because to me it sounds almost as if you work by the cliché "form follows function" - which is great if you're comfortable thinking inside the box. I can recommend this book (in Norwegian only, I'm afraid): Lunde, Melvin, 1969. Reklamens utforming, Oslo: Johan Grundt Tanum forlag. It's about some important aspects of what advertising can be, and is (almost) as relevant today as it was 40 years ago.
